4th Annual DS Support Buddy Walk to Promote Awareness & Acceptance of Down Syndrome
Burr Ridge IL - Individuals with Down syndrome, along with their friends and family,
will walk in full force on October 8, 2006, for the DS Support Chicagoland Buddy
Walk, organized by DS Support (Plainfield, IL) and the National Down Syndrome
Society (NDSS). The Buddy Walk celebrates October, National Down syndrome Awareness
Month, and promotes the awareness and acceptance of Down syndrome.

Registration begins at 1 pm, and the walk follows at 2 pm at the Community Park in
Lisle. Family festivities include games, entertainment, face painting, food, silent
auction, and prizes. A $20 individual or $40 family donation is suggested.

The goal of the walk is not only to raise money, but to encourage community members
to come together to facilitate acceptance, awareness and education for people with
special needs.

By promoting awareness and acceptance of people with Down syndrome, DS Support hopes
to break down many of the existing stereotypes about the abilities of people with
this genetic condition and show that they are more like their non-disabled peers
than they are different. All funds raised through the Buddy Walk will support local
programs and the NDSS’s education, research and advocacy efforts.

Call DS Support at 815-439-8693 for more information about participating in the
Chicagoland Buddy Walk, or visit their Web site at www.dssupport.net/buddywalk.
