Press Release Body = Dr. G. Frank Liu, Director, Vaccine Clinical Biostatistics at
Merck & Company in New Jersey will give a presentation entitled “Efficient Flexible
Designs to Target Various Treatment Effect Size in an Interval” at Targeted Designs
for Clinical Trials Conference on July 19 – 20, 2007 in Philadelphia, PA.

Flexible sample size design such as group sequential, sample size re-estimation, and
adaptive designs brings attractive properties in clinical trials. In this
presentation, the concept and motivation of using flexible sample size design will
be discussed when the unknown treatment difference is within a range rather than a
fixed point value. Criteria to assess the performance of different flexible sample
size designs will be introduced with the uncertainty of the true treatment
difference in an interval. The method to construct an efficient flexible sample size
design will be demonstrated with simulated examples.

GTCbio’s Targeted Designs for Clinical Trials Conference will take place at The
Downtown Club on the 11th floor of Philadelphia’s Historic Public Ledger Building.
The meeting addresses strategies to accelerate drug development, lower trial costs
and reduce development risks.
