Press Release Body: Christmas guests at Peak District Hotel and restaurant The Maynard were surprised to see that The Maynard’s latest ‘recruit’ was a mere two years old! They weren’t seeing things, it was Kai Downing, who donned his Christmas attire to help his mum Liz distribute free gifts to all the children attending Christmas lunch at The Maynard.
Liz, the hotel’s marketing manager, had herself swapped her business suit for an apron and along with husband Paul served a full English breakfast to the hotel’s staff on Christmas morning.
Liz said: “Christmas is a magical time for children and we were keen to make sure that children visiting us on Christmas Day received a special surprise from Santa. Kai is not part of the staff yet, but he enjoyed helping out and you never know what might happen in a few years time!
”The breakfast service for staff was our thank you for the team’s hard work during 2007. It seemed to go down well and we may have set a precedent; if we have to do it again we will hopefully be able to rise to the challenge as we really enjoyed it. Even though Paul and I are trained chefs, it is a long time since we had to work in a kitchen for a living and we were undoubtedly both a bit rusty.”
Christmas was a great success at The Maynard, with all main availability sold out in advance and people already asking for information on next Christmas. “We could have sold out Christmas lunch and our brass band evenings many times over,” added Liz. “Now people have got used to our radical new restaurant refurbishment and we are regularly getting compliments on the quality of the food, we are expecting a good year in 2008.
The Maynard accommodation is now closed for refurbishment and will re-open in March. However the restaurant and bar remain open for the sale of food and drink.
