Released on: June 2, 2008, 2:28 am

Press Release Author: Terry W. Dodds

Industry: Law

Press Release Summary: Anthony Javon Brown, formerly of Bloomington, Illinois, was
found not guilty before a jury of his peers on May 13, 2007, after a two day jury
trial.

Press Release Body: Bloomington, Illinois, June 2, 2008 – Anthony Javon Brown,
formerly of Bloomington, Illinois, was found not guilty before a jury of his peers
on May 13, 2007, after a two day jury trial. Mr. Brown was facing 3 Counts varying
in degrees of severity relating to offenses involving the unlawful delivery of
narcotics, including a Class 1 Felony of Delivery of a Controlled Substance within
1000 feet of a public housing facility and a Class 1 Count of Criminal Drug
Conspiracy. Mr. Brown was represented by Bloomington attorney Terry W. Dodds of The
Dodds Law Office. The State’s case relied heavily on the testimony of someone the
prosecution frequently referred to as the “middle man” and who had multiple
convictions for prior drug-related offenses. Mr. Dodds successfully argued that
there was insufficient evidence to establish that his client was involved in the
sale of these narcotics to the middleman, stating that there was not one “scintilla
of evidence” establishing that Mr. Brown supplied narcotics to this person. \"In
making an analogy to L. Frank Baum\'s Wizard of Oz, Mr. Dodds argued that the jury
should not ignore the \"man behind the curtain\" trying to convict his client.\"

Dodds earned his Juris Doctor degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale
in 2000 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from
Illinois State University in 1996. He is a native of the Bloomington-Normal area,
having attended grade school and junior high in the Unit 5 School District.
