Silicon Solar Donates SunMaxx Solar Thermal Systems to San Diego State University

Released on: October 27, 2008, 10:33 am

Press Release Author: Silicon Solar Inc

Industry: Non Profit

Press Release Summary: Silicon Solar Inc, and its SunMaxx Solar Thermal Division,
recently donated two SunMaxx Solar Collectors to the Mechanical Engineering
Department at San Diego State University. The donation is the latest step in
Silicon Solar Inc's efforts to provide Solar Energy Education Programs and
assistance to colleges, universities and high schools across the United States, and
around the world.

Press Release Body: Silicon Solar Inc, and its SunMaxx Solar Thermal Division,
recently donated two SunMaxx Solar Collectors to the Mechanical Engineering
Department at San Diego State University. The Donation of a SunMaxx-10 Evacuated
Tube Solar Collector and a SunMaxx DEMO Evacuated Tube Solar Collector totaled $800
in materials and will assist San Diego State University Engineering Students in
their work with today's latest technologies and industry trends, providing them a
leg up on other candidates for tomorrow's engineering and green-collar jobs.

The two SunMaxx Evacuated Tube Solar Collectors will be used by SDSU's Mechanical
Engineering Students to study Solar Thermal Systems and their use in real world
applications. The SDSU Students will provide irreplaceable data and feedback on the
performance of SunMaxx Evacuated Tube Solar Collectors, and help Silicon Solar make
future improvements to these collectors, providing future clients with access to
more efficient and cost-effective Solar Hot Water Systems.

The Professor in charge of acquiring the donation was Professor Fletcher Miller, a
long-standing member of the SDSU Mechanical Engineering Faculty. Professor Miller
has long been interested in Thermal Sciences and Sustainable Energy, and these new
SunMaxx Solar Collectors will provide his students with hands-on training with some
of today's leading Solar Energy Technologies. Professor Miller is excited about the
donation, and believes the donation "plays an important role in providing us (San
Diego State University) with the resources we need to provide a contemporary
education for our students." Silicon Solar is proud to provide these invaluable
tools to the students at San Diego State University, and looks forward to a close
relationship with the teams that are working with these Solar Collectors, and on
future projects.

Silicon Solar is equally excited about the partnership with SDSU. "They have one of
the strongest, fastest growing engineering departments in the country, with the some
of the best, and brightest, students," says Silicon Solar CEO Adam Farrell. "If
Solar Energy is to become the dominant energy source in this country, tomorrow's
leaders, the students at leading institutions like San Diego State, will need to be
educated on today's leading technologies, how to work with them, and have an
investment in perfecting the technology for future generations and more diverse
applications."

Professor Miller plans to have the SunMaxx Evacuated Tube Solar Collectors "used to
teach students about cutting edge solar thermal technology," and believes the
donation will "provide opportunity for Senior Project students to work on ways to
further optimize the collectors or connect them to novel power producing devices."

The donation is the latest step in Silicon Solar Inc's efforts to provide Solar
Energy Education Programs and assistance to colleges, universities and high schools
across the United States, and around the world. San Diego State's upcoming Solar
Energy Laboratory is a shining example of the powerful education potential within
the Solar Industry, and Silicon Solar Inc is proud to be a supporter of, and
advocate for, such programs as they become more popular and widespread.
