Riding High - Mountain Biker Who Scaled Exam Peak

A Chester mountain bike enthusiast who put the brakes on his pastime to study for a top accountancy qualification has seen his sacrifice pay dividends.

Danny Armstrong (31) of The Funding Corporation in Chester has now graduated as a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Entry to the elite body is only allowed to those who have passed CIMA's tough management accountancy examinations which usually require three years of study.

But Danny was able to telescope his learning into 18 intensive months by being allowed time off from his job to attend BPP University College in Liverpool, and by studying at home.

Danny, who was recently promoted to the position of Finance Manager, first joined the company ten years ago after a period working for a Chester accountancy practice.

Born in Chester and currently living in Boughton, he is a keen mountain biker - but had to put the padlock on his regular weekends in North Wales whilst preparing for the CIMA exams.

Danny was fully sponsored for his £13,000 course by The Funding Corporation which has its headquarters on Chester Business Park.

Managing Director David Challinor congratulated him this week on his "fantastic achievement" in gaining a major qualification in so short a space of time:

"We are extremely keen on encouraging learning and skills development among staff, and are happy to invest in their gaining qualifications which will open up new career opportunities," said David.

"But obviously this also requires a real commitment from those concerned - and Danny has clearly demonstrated that he's got the staying power!" he added.
